UPDATE: I wanted to throw out a few thoughts on Comet Ison now that it has passed Perihelion. I suppose the purpose of this blog was to test a form of Scientific method. I know the scientists are saying that this is Ison’s first pass through our solar system, but it seemed to me that there were plenty of references to a 333 year cycle of cometary passes and strikes to the Earth by Comet’s or cometary fragments. This story is obviously not over yet, since it appears that when Ison slingshotted around the Sun, it may have fragmented, and some of these fragments may be quite large. I guess we’ll find out in the next month or so if we’re going to have a nice Christmas Comet, get hit by Comet Fragments, both of the previous, or neither of them. Either way, I do believe in scientific method when it’s applied in the right way. One recurrence could be a coincidence, two could also be a coincidence but a little more suspicious, but three confirmed recurrences from various sources going back to 1014 A.D. seems a little odd to me. Of course, now with our global media, we’ll definately know if any fragments hit land or anywhere near land. We would also know if such fragments caused a tidal wave(Tsunami) like occured in 1014 A.D.. Ok, I’ll stop for now and pick up after we see what happens in the next month or so. If there is any odd outcome from this comet, I would think that it might be time to start writing something for the year 2346 A.D.. If Ison isn’t the sameComet as the others in the 333 year cycle, it could be that something out there is bumping Comets in our direction every 333 years…..or maybe it’s something else all-together!! Fingers crossed.
I found something I thought was interesting about a Comet, named Comet Ison that was discovered in September of 2012. I looked it up online and found that it is on somewhat the same trajectory as another famous Comet called the Great comet of 1680 to which a lot of artwork is dedicated, since it was such a big spectacle back then. If it holds together on its journey around the Sun, it will prove to be the brightest Comet seen in our generation.
What really interested me more than anything else are the linking generalizations associated with this Comet. It supposedly is on the same trajectory as the Great Comet of 1680, which is 333 years between the two appearances. If this is the same Comet that came around in 1680, then it would have a 333 year cycle, therefore, I should be able to do some research going back every 333 years and possibly be able to find references to it, if it is the case that it is a periodic Comet. So far I’ve found information recurring every 333 years, back to the year 681 A.D.. They’ve all been associated with Global changes and disasters, for better or worse. I’ve never been into numerology, but there seem to be some odd coincidences involved with that as well, and I’ll try to get into it more when I have the time. One example of these odd coincidences is that one pass of a Comet(whether it’s the same Comet or not is unknown) in this 333 year cycle, was during the reign of Emperor Constans, the son of Constantine The Great, and Constans was appointed Ceasar in the year 333 A.D.. Another pass on this 333 year cycle goes back to the date 15 A.D., which is just outside the date speculated as the date Christ was born. When it comes to Cometary or celestial events, there has been no shortage of the Boy who cried Wolf syndrome, but as I find more eveidence of a 333 year cycle of Cometary conjunctions associated with global changes of some sort, it’s starting to look more like science and scientific method to me and less like speculation.
I won’t go into the technical details about the Comet’s size(large, about two miles) but will just say that it’s expected to put on quite a show at the end of 2013 and be brighter than than a full moon, even during the daytime skies.
The Comet should be visible to the naked eye from the end of October 2013 and possibly through December, with its brightest appearance being toward the end of November 2013.
Comet Ison: Expected to be seen with the naked eye in late October 2013 and brighter than the full moon during the daytime in November, with it possibly being visisble in the sky until late December.

THE GREAT COMET OF 1680
Now, on to the interesting part. Going back 333 years from November 2013 we get to the date 1680. If you do a web search for this date you’ll find that there was another Great Comet that came around in Novemmber and was also visible during the daytime hours just as Comet Ison is speculated to be. There was also an outbreak of Black Plague which lasted until 1684 and ravaged many countries.
Here is another Italian reference to a Comet in 1680:
Affacciatomi ancor’io therefore, the same evening December 24 models, on ‘the darkening of the night, that’ about three quarters of hora after on the setting of the sun, on the ‘Gate of the Court of my house, which risguarda westward I met immediately with a view within a radius d ‘unusually large, which seemed not very high above the houses of the place, which was white in color gets in, e’l leaden, or’ we mean cinericio, a ‘way of apunto ‘a sunbeam, ch’entrato in a dark room for a gap, or’ hole of a closed window soles shine, so be aware of already ‘gone the sun, it’ power naturally produce artificial light beam so long-winded, and so high, judged to be some new birth of Heaven, or Comet, or other impression Weather, and therefore ‘to observe it better, being prevented a view to the plan by dell’Orizonte Houses round about the place, I resolved to take me, as I did in open place, but ’cause his body shook our horizon, and the view there was occupied by the interposition de’ Monti della Graffagnana, it was not possible to observe all’hora, if not more harshly that the site and its Coda, which was longa to ‘gr.32 wide and about half the gr. 2. and a half, and more and more ’emptied itself towards the end dilattando proportionately to’ apunto guise of a Fishtail, and tended to our Polo Boreo, and at about 3. hore of night disappeared, occultandosi below the horizon ….

As in heaven aparve a commeta. In that year, the month of August, aparve commeta star in the sky, which they called Nigra, in the sign of Taurus, with degrees in Chapter XVI of the figure and sign of the Gorgon, and lasted fifteenth day. This Nigra is of the nature of Saturn and its infruenzia cria is, according to what he says and strolago Zael philosopher, and most other masters of that scientist, which means pure evil and death of kings and powerful, and this proved to be very tough in king and more real, as inanzi reading will not find, and it engendered great mortality ‘countries where the said planet, and sign lord, and well proved inn East and the sea around it, as we said adietro.
(G. Villani, New Chronic. Florence, 1348)
I found this statement from the year 1348 in Italian and translated it. It discusses the Comet of 1347. The black Death started in Asia and made its way to Europe in 1347. The arrival of the Black Death, in Europe in 1347 pushed the European population into a century-long demographic decline and caused long term changes in economy and society. Apparently, the population of Europe was reduced by around 50% due to the Black Death(Plague) and changed every facet of society and the world at that time.

Comet of 1014
I took the following from a website called People of One Fire
“Forensic geologist Dallas Abbott of the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University has found evidence of a large meteor or comet strike in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which hurled extraterrestrial debris over 3800 km (2361 miles) to a bog in the Black Rock Forest in New York. The material was dated to around 1014 AD. Abbot also found debris from a meteor or comet strike in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Basin that also dated to 1014 AD.
Gary postulated that the damage wrought by this tsunami (or multiple tsunamis) was similar to the one in the Indian Ocean on December 26, 2004. He believed that the scale of this disaster would have had a major cultural impact on the indigenous peoples of the Americas. He connected the disasters to the stone inscriptions of a great flood along the coast of Mexico and Central America in the early 11th century AD. Gary suggested that the Aztec legend of the death of the Fourth Sun originated in the cataclysmic events of 1014 AD. He also linked the meteors with flaming tails to Pre-Columbian imagery of feathered serpents and European myths about fire-breathing dragons.”
“The anglo-Saxon Chronicle: 1014 AD – This year, on the eve of St. Michael’s day (September 28), came the great sea-flood, which spread wide over this land, and ran so far up as it never did before, overwhelming many towns, and an innumerable multitude of people.”
“Other Medieval records confirm Abott’s and Daniels’ interpretation of the geological evidence. William of Malmesbury in The History of the English Kings (vol. 1) states “A tidal wave, of the sort which the Greeks call euripus, grew to an astonishing size such as the memory of man cannot parallel, so as to submerge villages many miles inland and overwhelm and drown their inhabitants.” A sea flood is also mentioned in the Chronicle of Quedlinburg Abbey (Saxony), where it states many people died as a result of the flood in the Low Countries (Juteland, Holstein, Friesland, the Netherlands and Belgium) in 1014.”

I’m trying to find records or comet reports before 1014 but it seems the farther back you go chronologically, the harder it is to find information. I’ll keep digging though. Here is a report recorded as happening in 684 AD but was apparently written in 800 AD, so it’s possible the date could be a few years off…not sure of the source.
The Comet of 684
On this occasion, a star in the night sky was clear, according to the Pleiads between and Natalis theophany of the Lord appeared, shadowed, every way, as it were, with the moon under the cloud is determined on, in the month of February After this, he went out on the day of the middle of the star from the west, which, with a great brightness that he turned aside into the parts of the east. Next March eructuavit provide several days, and all the surrounding vegetation for dust and ashes that were destroyed.
(P. Deacon, History of the Lombards. About 800)
I’ll keep adding to this material as I find it, but it seems pretty clear that there seems to be a recurring theme going on here every 333 years.
